William L. Downey, 80, of Lacon, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.Private graveside services will be held in Wenona Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.Mr. Downey was born November 8, 1943 in Peru to Walter and Eva (Mertes) Downey. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He worked as an engineer at Westclox and retired in 2008 from LCN Closures/Ingersoll-Rand. He was proud to hold several patents for door closures. Bill loved photography, computers, and genealogy.Survivors include his chosen daughter, Tamara Mehalic; her daughter, Katherine (Derek) Jason; their children, Kaya, Kloee, Silas, Shane, and Xander all of Lacon; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, John "Jack" Downey, Robert "Bob" Downey, James "Jim" Downey, and MaryAnn Wagner.Instead of memorial contributions, the family asks that you ple
